The Tokyo production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child began its long-running run on Friday 8 July 2022. Kanji Ishimaru, who has played the role of Harry Potter as one of the triple cast since the opening season last year, welcomed the closing curtain today, and after the performance, a special ceremony was held to celebrate his final performance and the first anniversary of the opening of the show, announced HORIPRO Inc.

At a special ceremony, after the curtain call of the cast, Kanji Ishimaru thanked the audience for the one-year anniversary of the opening of the show, commented on his own closing remarks, and announced that he would be making a comeback as Harry Potter again from January 2024 onwards.
After rigorous auditions and rehearsals, he made his first appearance on the main stage on 17 August 2022. The announcement that Kanji Ishimaru, who has played the role of Harry Potter for a total of 188 performances over the past year, would be making a comeback from January next year was greeted with loud cheers from the approximately 1,300 people in attendance.
At the climax of the ceremony, Kanji Ishimaru called out "Lumos", which triggered the lights on the audience's smart phones to light up simultaneously. A photo shoot took place in the fantastic atmosphere of approximately 1,300 lights.

Total number of stage performances of Harriotta in one year exceeded 450, with a total audience of 580,000!

The stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, written for the stage by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter novel series, with John Tiffany and Jack Thorne. Nineteen years after the final novel, this new adventure story centred on the relationship between 37-year-old Harry Potter, now a father, and his son Albus, has been well received and won many theatre awards worldwide.
The Tokyo tour, which was the first in Asia, has been sold out since its opening and has also won high acclaim, including the Special Selection Committee Award at the 30th Yomiuri Theatre Awards and the Kazuo Kikuta Theatre Grand Prize at the 48th Kazuo Kikuta Theatre Awards. reached 580,000.

After the completion of his own closing night today, Kanji Ishimaru, who will make a comeback as Harry Potter from January 2024 onwards, made a comment on the first anniversary, along with his gratitude for the occasion. This 8 July we celebrated our first anniversary.
We would like to thank everyone for their love of this work.
On a personal note, today's performance marks the end of a period.
Thinking back, I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for the first time on Broadway in New York in February 2020. It was only a two-part play, but I first thought, 'I want to play it'. Then there was a long audition process, and last April the cast and crew came together and a long rehearsal process followed.
This is the first long-running performance since the opening of the show. We have all experienced how difficult it is to keep up the quality, keep up the energy, deliver a performance with momentum and have the audience enjoy it. We started together, joined hands and have run so far.
The members and staff who stand here now are my treasures.
I am sure that the company will continue to work together as one and devote itself to performing a perfect show. I said 'once' earlier. I love this play so much that I kept saying "I want to perform it again", and I will be back in January next year. So you're taking a six-month break.
Performances will continue in the future. We hope you will come back to this stage again.

During the rehearsal period before and after the opening of the show, many people have been working throughout the year to make The Cursed Child the best play ever.

TBS Akasaka ACT Theatre reopened on the first day of preview performances on 16 June 2022 (Thursday) as the Harry Potter Theatre dedicated to the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child after a six-month major renovation from December 2021.
